You are invited to a conference at

Foundry United Methodist Church, 1500 16th Street NW, Washington, DC www.foundryumc.org

Friday, October 19th, 2007 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The intention of the gathering is to:

  • 1.) Hear the voices and experiences of Israeli and Palestinian women from the Women's Peace Exchange 2007 delegation.
  • 2.) Raise awareness of the disparate effect of the continued conflict on women.
  • 3.) Get the facts about the use of water and other natural resources in the region.
  • 4.) Explore collaborative ways to repair damage done to women, their families, and to the environment.
  • 5.) Promote the United Nations Resolution 1325 for Women, Peace & Security

While Palestinian women living under Israeli occupation struggle with daily survival, Israeli women, too, live in a constant state of insecurity. The cycle of violence perpetuates itself and comes home to everyone.   We don't pretend to have the answer to this centuries' old struggle.  "Women to Women for Peace" have been promoting the strengthening of women's role in peacemaking and intercultural understanding among women as a way to peace since 1981.

Phyllis Bennis (author of Understanding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: A Primer) will join us as well as renowned Emma's Revolution musicians Pat Humphries & Sandy O ("Peace, Salaam, Shalom").  Jazz vocalist Pam Parker will sing to us (and with us) of justice and freedom and Noa Baum will perform excerpts from "A Land Twice Promised".  Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson will tell us about House Resolution 146 to support women in war and its aftermath and Tzili Mor will educate us on United Nation's Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace & Security.  What can one do with all this info?  We will circle up and share our views and visions for peace and action.

Pre-registration of $25 per person or $35 at the door is requested.  (Lunch is included. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.) Your organization can co-sponsor this event for $25 ($50 if you wish to have a table for your own literature, etc.)
